KBRN, Bengkulu: The Regional Legislation Affairs Committee (BULD) of the House of Regional Representatives (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) will hold a Public Hearing (RDPU) with the Regional Autonomy Implementation Monitoring Committee (KPPOD) and Publish What You Pay (PWYP) Indonesia.

BULD DPD RI member Hj Riri Damayanti John Latief said the RDPU that will be held with KPPOD and PWYP Indonesia is related to the discussion of licensing in the mining, forestry, and environmental sectors and related regulations.

“Licensing regulations in the mining and forestry sectors need to be improved so that various licensing problems in the mining and forestry sectors can truly prosper the region and its people,” Riri said on Tuesday (7/11/2023).

This Bengkulu University Master of Management graduate explained that several things should be observed in improving regulations, especially regarding the importance of establishing regional supervisory units, improving licensing mechanisms, handling problems, and so on.

“For example, in Bengkulu, granting licenses to mining companies should not contradict efforts to conserve protected animals. Giving rights must also really pay attention to the community’s aspirations to not cause chaos, “said Senator Riri.

The Deputy Chairperson of the BPD of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) of Bengkulu Province emphasized that the governance of mining natural resources in the region also requires regulations that can create a good economic climate.

“Many coal mining companies in Bengkulu are now out of business due to the sharp decline in coal prices at the mining level, the issue of operating licenses to carry out activities in forest areas, and increasing operational costs. Coal has been Bengkulu’s leading export sector. Things like this need to be anticipated, “said this Bengkulu Senator.

Furthermore, the Chairman of the Regional Leadership Council (DPD) of Barisan Pemuda Nusantara (Bapera) Kepahiang Regency added the rules of law regarding mining must also regulate the problem of transportation systems because this always causes problems in Bengkulu Province.

“Mining companies should build special lanes to transport their mining products, not to cause congestion that disturbs the community and traffic. The Bengkulu Provincial Government has tried to overcome this by issuing a circular letter, but it turned out to be less effective,” said Riri.
