Jakarta, 23 Juli 2025 – To enhance the implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Indonesia as a movement for transparency and accountability in the extractive sector, Publish What You Pay (PWYP) Indonesia held a meeting with the EITI Indonesia Secretariat, led directly by Mr. Chrisnawan Anditya, Head of the EITI Indonesia Secretariat and concurrently Head of the Data and Information Center (Pusdatin) at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), on July 23, 2025.

Several agendas were discussed in this meeting, including reflections and lessons learned from the training “Enhancing Community Access and Utilization of Data and Information for Oversight of Mining Governance and Just Energy Transition in Indonesia” in Makassar, which involved communities from mining-affected areas in South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, and North Maluku.

Key recommendations from the training include the need for data improvements, particularly in the extractive data portal, to make it more comprehensive and relevant to community needs, especially for affected communities. This training is part of the program “Supporting EITI Indonesia in Strengthening Community Access to Data and Dialogue Platforms,” a collaboration between PWYP Indonesia, EITI Indonesia, and EITI Global, supported by the Ford Foundation.

Furthermore, the meeting discussed efforts to strengthen EITI Indonesia’s institutional framework as a follow-up to the EITI Indonesia Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG) Forum (June 11) through the proposal for drafting a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) as the legal umbrella for EITI’s institutional structure. PWYP Indonesia and the EITI Indonesia Secretariat agreed to collaborate in preparing the draft Academic Manuscript and the draft Perpres.

The meeting also addressed plans for further collaboration in Extractive Transparency Day 2025, public discussions on the urgency of law enforcement in the ESDM sector, and other agendas.
